About This Weighted GPA Calculator

Weighted GPA rewards course rigor by adding extra grade points to more advanced classes. This calculator uses the standard US weighting pattern built on the 4.0 scale: Regular classes use the base points, Honors classes add +0.5, and AP/IB classes add +1.0. It supports multiple semesters, What-If planning, local save, and PDF export while keeping all data in your browser.

How to Use the Weighted GPA Calculator

Follow these steps for an accurate GPA result

1Start in Weighted Mode

This calculator opens in weighted mode and keeps weighted grading active throughout. That means Regular courses stay on the standard 4.0 scale, Honors courses receive a +0.5 bonus, and AP/IB courses receive a +1.0 bonus, with the overall scale capped at 5.0.

2Choose the Correct Course Type

For each course, select whether it is Regular, Honors, or AP/IB. This is the key difference between a weighted GPA and an unweighted GPA. A course with the same letter grade can contribute different grade points depending on the academic level.

3Enter Credits and Grades

Add your course name if you want, then enter the credit hours and the letter grade earned. The calculator converts each course to the correct weighted grade points automatically and updates your semester and cumulative GPA in real time.

4Add All Semesters

Click "Add Semester" to include every term you want in the result. The calculator computes each semester GPA separately while also maintaining your running weighted cumulative GPA across all terms.

5Review, Save, and Compare

The result card shows your weighted GPA, total credit hours, and total courses. Use What-If mode to test how changing one course from Regular to Honors or AP/IB affects your cumulative GPA, then save or export the result when needed.

Pro Tips

  • Use What-If mode to experiment with future grades — click the What-If button to snapshot your current GPA, then add or edit courses to see how planned grades would raise or lower it. Hit ↩ Restore to go back to your real data anytime
  • Save your result and download as PDF to keep for scholarship or transfer applications
  • Add all semesters at once — cumulative gpa is calculated automatically

Weighted GPA on the US Scale

Quick Facts

  • Regular courses stay on the standard 4.0 scale.
  • Honors courses add +0.5 grade points.
  • AP/IB courses add +1.0 grade points.
  • Maximum weighted GPA on this calculator is 5.0.

Weighted GPA gives a more complete picture of academic rigor than an unweighted GPA alone. A student taking mostly advanced classes may earn a stronger weighted GPA even if the raw letter grades are similar to another student's standard-course schedule. This calculator lets you see that difference course by course.
