How is cumulative GPA calculated?

GPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Σ(Credits). For each course, multiply the credit hours by the grade point value (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, etc.). Sum all those products, then divide by total credit hours across all semesters. A higher-credit course has proportionally more impact on your GPA than a lower-credit one.

Can I calculate GPA for multiple semesters?

Yes. Click "Add Semester" to add as many terms as you need. The calculator displays each semester's GPA individually and automatically computes your cumulative GPA across all semesters. You can rename each semester (e.g., "Fall 2024", "Spring 2025") to keep records organised.

Can I save my results?

What GPA is needed for good academic standing?

Honours programs, professional degrees, or graduate tracks often require 3.0 or higher. Check your institution's academic handbook for the specific minimum applicable to your programme.

Do credit hours affect my GPA?

Yes — significantly. A 4-credit course carries twice the weight of a 2-credit course in the GPA formula. If you earn a B in a 4-credit core course and an A in a 1-credit elective, the B will pull your GPA down more than the A raises it. This is why performance in high-credit required courses has the greatest impact on your cumulative GPA.

The US 4.0 scale assigns grade points from 4.0 (A) down to 0.0 (F) for each course, then weights each by credit hours to compute your semester and cumulative GPA. How to Use the GPA Calculator
