About This Transfer GPA Calculator

This Transfer GPA Calculator measures grades from courses confirmed as transferable and keeps that result separate from the GPA earned at your current institution. It also provides a combined planning GPA when you need to understand the overall academic record across both schools.

However, accepting credits and accepting grades into an institutional GPA are not the same decision. Therefore, the combined result is clearly labeled as a planning estimate, while the transferable-course GPA can be compared with an admission or program target.

How to Use the Transfer GPA Calculator

Follow these steps for an accurate Transfer GPA result

1Enter Your Institutional GPA

Add the GPA and GPA credits earned at your current or receiving institution. Keep this record separate from prior-school grades.

2Set a Transfer GPA Target

Enter the minimum or competitive transferable-course GPA you want to compare against.

3Add Confirmed Transfer Courses

Enter each course's credits and grade points, then include it only after the receiving institution or articulation resource confirms transferability.

4Compare the Three Results

Review institutional GPA, transferable-course GPA, and the combined planning GPA without assuming the combined result will appear on an official transcript.

Understanding Transfer GPA Results

Institutional GPA

Coursework included in the GPA maintained by the current or receiving institution.

Transferable-course GPA

The weighted average of prior courses confirmed as eligible to transfer.

Combined planning GPA

A personal estimate combining both records, whether or not the receiving institution reports it.

For a published example of the credit-weighted method, review UC's official transfer GPA instructions. Federal Student Aid also documents that institutions may include or exclude accepted transfer grades according to their academic policy in certain federal-aid GPA determinations.

Frequently Asked Questions
