AADSAS rules that affect your numbers

  • AADSAS counts all repeated courses and does not replace the earlier grade.
  • Quarter-hour courses are converted to semester hours using × 0.667.
  • All institutions and failed grades remain in the GPA calculation.
  • AADSAS reports GPA both with plus/minus grades and without plus/minus grades.

About This AADSAS GPA Calculator

This AADSAS GPA calculator is built for dental school applicants who need to estimate the GPA views most often reviewed in D.D.S. and D.M.D. admissions: overall GPA, BCP GPA, science GPA, non-science GPA, undergraduate GPA, and graduate GPA. It also shows both AADSAS grading views, because AADSAS reports GPA with plus/minus grades and without plus/minus grades.

How to Use the AADSAS GPA Calculator

Follow these steps for an accurate AADSAS GPA result

1Enter Every Graded Course Attempt

Add every graded course from every college or university you attended. AADSAS includes initial and repeated coursework, so earlier attempts should stay in the calculation.

2Choose the Dental Application Subject Category

Classify each course as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Other Science, or Non-Science. Those subject choices determine whether the row counts toward AADSAS BCP GPA, science GPA, and non-science GPA.

3Set Academic Level and Credit System

Mark each course as Undergraduate, Post-Bacc, or Graduate and choose semester or quarter units. The calculator converts quarter hours into semester hours using the AADSAS 0.667 factor.

4Compare Both AADSAS Grade Views

AADSAS reports GPA both with plus/minus grading and without plus/minus grading. This page shows both views so you can see how rounding changes your overall and science-related numbers.

5Review Dental-School GPA Buckets Together

Use the result panel to compare overall GPA, BCP GPA, science GPA, non-science GPA, undergraduate GPA, and graduate GPA before you apply to dental school.

Why AADSAS Shows Two Overall GPA Values

AADSAS reports GPA in two grading views. The first keeps plus and minus grades, so values like B+ and A- stay distinct. The second removes plus and minus differences, so all A-range grades count as 4.0, all B-range grades count as 3.0, all C-range grades count as 2.0, and all D-range grades count as 1.0.

That is why the result card shows two overall GPA values. The plus/minus version is usually more precise, while the no-plus/minus version reflects the rounded view some dental schools may prefer when reviewing applicants.

AADSAS GPA Types Explained

Overall GPA

Includes all graded coursework from all institutions after credit standardization. This is the main AADSAS cumulative GPA most applicants compare first.

BCP GPA

Includes only Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This is one of the most important dental-school screening GPAs.

Science GPA

Includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Other Science coursework. It is broader than BCP.

Non-Science GPA

Includes coursework outside the science categories, such as writing, humanities, business, languages, and social sciences.

Undergraduate GPA

Includes undergraduate and post-baccalaureate coursework so you can isolate your pre-dental academic base.

Graduate GPA

Separates graduate-level work for applicants who completed a master’s or other advanced academic program.

How AADSAS Calculates GPA

1The Formula

AADSAS GPA = Σ (Semester-Standardized Credits × Grade Points)

Σ Semester-Standardized Credits

Quarter-hour courses are first converted into semester hours, then quality points are averaged inside each AADSAS GPA bucket.

2Key AADSAS Rules

  • All attempts count, including repeated coursework.
  • All institutions count, not just your current school.
  • Quarter hours are converted into semester hours using 0.667.
  • Failed courses stay in the calculation, even if your institution has grade forgiveness.
  • BCP and science are different, because Mathematics and Other Science count toward science GPA but not toward BCP GPA.
