How IELTS Overall Band Calculation Works
All Four Sections Always Matter
IELTS overall score is based on Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking together. Even if three sections are strong, one weaker section can pull the overall average down or fail a section minimum requirement.
Reading Type Changes Raw-Score Conversion
Listening raw-score conversion is shared across IELTS types, but Reading conversion is different for Academic and General Training. This matters when you start from correct answers rather than known band scores.
IELTS Uses Its Own Rounding Rules
The final average is not reported to arbitrary decimals. IELTS rounds to whole or half bands. That is why a raw average such as 6.25 can become 6.0, while 6.75 can become 7.0.
